Atlantis: The Lost Empire - Crystal Papercraft
This model certainly brings back memories. It's been a long time since I've last seen or heard about the 2001 Disney movie Atlantis: The Lost Empire. The Atlantean crystal above that is worn by Princess Kida gives her and other Atlanteans the power to live abnormally long lives. Model design by Michael Smith.

Epic Mickey desktop wallpaper (link roundup)

Destructoid posted lots of concept art from the new Epic Mickey game. I took the liberty of creating a widescreen desktop wallpaper using Oswald and the creepy zombie/robo Donald. Also, Kotaku posted an interview with Warren Spector about the game.
And a few more links:
1. Longtime Los Angeles Times columnists Steve Lopez describes visiting a doctor to get a medical marijuana prescription. The doctor was a gynecologist. He prescribed the marijuana for Lopez's reported back pain. (He's also at least the third LA Times columnist to write about obtaining medical marijuana.)
2. Vercorin, Switzerland features an optical illusion created by Felice Varini, called "Cercle et suite d'éclats." When you view the town from the right spot, a bunch of circles appear. Via these sites.

And a few more links:
1. Penny Arcade is hosting a Katamari-themed art contest.
2. Game Informer has a dedicated minisite for its various exclusive stories about the new steampunk video game for the Wii Epic Mickey. They also posted some concept art here. But mostly the site is as user-unfriendly as can be. Indeed, I've seen countless sites that have posted scans from the magazine that are far more enjoyable to look at than the posts at Game Informer. I don't believe it's right to post scans from the magazine, or to link to others who have done so, but Game Informer has really gotten what it deserved in doing such a bad job of getting the content online itself.
3. The AP says:
Shepard Fairey has now been forced to admit that he sued the AP under false pretenses by lying about which AP photograph he used to make the Hope and Progress posters. Mr. Fairey has also now admitted to the AP that he fabricated and attempted to destroy other evidence in an effort to bolster his fair use case and cover up his previous lies and omissions.Read on. Indeed, Fairey describes his conduct here. Via.

Brutal Legend comic strip by Scott Campbell (link roundup)
Scott Campbell posted a comic strip celebrating Brutal Legend's release.
And a few more links:
1. Too creepy to post here, ads by DraftFCB for Chronic’art Magazine. One features a bloody-handed man stroking a rabbit, and the other stars maggots pouring out of a corrupted laptop.
2. Disney is going to overhaul its lousy mall stores and look to the Apple stores for inspiration. Here's a few simple tips. First, put something more enticing than towels in the entryway and windows. Second, if you're going to play movies, spend a few extra bucks for a screen that's decent enough to make the picture visible. Third, parents with young kids aren't going to shop at a store if they know checkout will take eons.

Disney art projects pure and not so pure
Two art projects from Disney. First up, a new art book called The Art of the Disney Princess. Below are illustrations of Ariel from the Little Mermaid and Aurora from Sleeping Beauty by Eric Tan:

and here are photographs of Snow White and Jasmine from Aladdin by Ryan Astamendi:

The book is 34% off at Amazon.
Next, on the other end of the artistic spectrum, various "visual artists stemming from the urban underground pop art movement originating in 1970's Los Angeles" were hired to create Disney-inspired images. Below are a few from the series:

The Queen from Snow White by Steven Daily, who also has art on sale at Zazzle.

Mickey Mouse by Eli Trinh, who managed to draw a girly excavator.

Alice in Wonderland by lola.
You can buy these images and more in the series here.
