And a few more links:

1. Gawker reports a claim that the Wall Street Journal is "hemorrhaging money." (Which would explain Rupert Murdoch's switch from boasting of giving content away for free, to trumpeting the need to demand payment for content.)

2. "Dick Giordano had a page of Teen Titans colored blue to help sort of 'sneak' the first interracial embrace in mainstream comics through." See the panel here.

Marvel Comics meet Lovecraft

Paolo Rivera says:
here is my first page of promotional art for The Marvels Project. I was asked to simulate a journal from the 1930s, written by a scientist who is involved in a secret government program to engineer super-powered soldiers. I wasn't given much direction beyond that, so I had a good degree of freedom (even with the text).
More art on the way.

I'm not up to date enough on current comics to know whether this is a new project or part of the campaign for The Marvels Project issues that have already come out. You can read a long interview with Ed Brubaker about that story here. He describes it as "an epic pulp adventure/espionage tale" about the earliest Marvel heroes, and "a widely-focused character piece with a sprawling cast... from the US govt. to the heroes like Angel, Cap and Torch, to the scientists in Germany and Russia, the spies who moved through all these worlds." You can see art from and reviews of that story at these links.

Tentacle shower head by Vado (link roundup)

"Sculpture" shower head by Vado. Via these fine sites.

And a few more links:

1. Penny Arcade is hosting a Katamari-themed art contest.

2. Game Informer has a dedicated minisite for its various exclusive stories about the new steampunk video game for the Wii Epic Mickey. They also posted some concept art here. But mostly the site is as user-unfriendly as can be. Indeed, I've seen countless sites that have posted scans from the magazine that are far more enjoyable to look at than the posts at Game Informer. I don't believe it's right to post scans from the magazine, or to link to others who have done so, but Game Informer has really gotten what it deserved in doing such a bad job of getting the content online itself.

3. The AP says:
Shepard Fairey has now been forced to admit that he sued the AP under false pretenses by lying about which AP photograph he used to make the Hope and Progress posters. Mr. Fairey has also now admitted to the AP that he fabricated and attempted to destroy other evidence in an effort to bolster his fair use case and cover up his previous lies and omissions.
Read on. Indeed, Fairey describes his conduct here. Via.

3. Interview with an anonymous person who worked on Top Chef. Key comment:
Stefan was super nice and people liked talking to him, and I had no idea until I watched the show that he was being painted as the bad guy—he opened a beer for me once without me even asking.

The agony and the ecstasy of being a squid

Isabella Rossellini stars as a squid on one of the new episodes of Green Porno. (No, she's not having sex in that particular shot.) The series is also now available as a book. Here's one more shot of Isabella as a anglerfish:

Timberland Delirium ad

A man adrift at sea is tormented by visions of his girlfriend, a giant octopus, and his daughter in this ad by Leagas Delaney. Thank god he's wearing his Timberland Earthkeepers.

Here's an article about Timberland, circa 1997. At least at the time, Timberland employees Timberland's employees received 40 hours paid leave every year to pursue volunteer projects.

And finally, speaking of giant octopii, Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus delivered the goods, including the shark eating the Golden Gate Bridge, and the octopus knocking a fighter jet out of the sky. And Debby Gibson sleeping with a fellow scientist in a janitor's closet.
