New Neatorama monsters (link roundup)

New Neatorama monster and robot by Joe Alterio.

And a few more links:

1. Stephen King's son Joseph Hillstrom King writes as "Joe Hill" and has met with success.

2. Governor Schwarzenegger with his sword. (California's revenues are already a billion behind estimates for the year, by the way.)

3. The timeless silhouette of Porsche's 911 Carrera. Via.

Exquisite Corpse book project

The Library of Congress is hosting an exquisite corpse adventure, where each chapter will be written by a different author. The first chapter is by child-lit god Jon Scieszka and features an illustration by Chris Van Dusen.

Over at Chris' site, you can buy original art and prints like this blue whale and retro-futuristic car:

And you can see an illustration from his new book The Circus Ship here. Via these sites.

Apparently old to the internet (on Digg almost a year ago), but new to me, Mark Whitaker shows how brutal wine-making can be. Via.

And a few more links:

1. Illustration of a diver and an octopus lady.

2. Wizard of Oz-themed retirement cake.

3. Stylish hot rod.

And a few more links:

1. Illustration of a guy holding Optimus Prime's rifle.

2. My new favorite accessory - - the "utility garter." Via.

3. Taheen spotted in the Moscow Subway. (If you don't know what a Taheen is, then you should stop reading Super Punch, and go read the Dark Tower series. And I don't mean that garbage comic book.)

*Previously: Optimus Picante t-shirt.

*Buy items signed by Stephen King at eBay.

Dashboard Joan Holloway (link roundup)

Dashboard Joan Holloway by mister frothee, who has also created Mad Men and Deadwood bobbleheads.

And a few more links:

1. Jeff Probst makes the villain of the latest season of Survivor sound fascinating.

2. Looks like the Twitter account is history, but for awhile it listed some pretty funny tag lines, including:
Pennzoil. America's Finest Motor Zoil.
You can find a few more here.

3. Nissan wants to give its silent electric cars a special sound:
The company consulted Japanese composers of film scores. What Tabata and his six-member team came up with is a high- pitched sound reminiscent of the flying cars in “Blade Runner,” the 1982 film directed by Ridley Scott portraying his dystopian vision of 2019.
I've long thought that it was a matter of time before we could download engine sounds for our cars the way we can download ringtones for our phones.

"Fashion-forward red gauges and other styling cues, for example, make the Pontiac G6 more of a gay car than its sibling, the Grand Am"

Interesting article about the perception that some cars are more gay than others. Here's more:

Subaru has been the most prominent company to embrace the gay market. As long ago as 2000, the automaker created advertising campaigns around Martina Navratilova, the gay tennis star, and also used a sales slogan that was a subtle gay-rights message: “It’s not a choice. It’s the way we’re built.” Little wonder that many lesbians refer to their Outbacks as “Lesbarus.”
